I’m not sure how it is almost July but I kind of love that it is. Except that I’ll be 28 at the end of it. Yikes.
Some tidbits to preface this week’s Song of the Week:
Josh Ritter will be gracing us with his presence on the 19th and I’m really excited because
1) He is probably my favorite musician to see live. His energy is amazing and his smile is infectious. 2) It will be taking place at my favorite Utah venue.
One of my all time favorite songs (and nicknames) is ‘Moonriver’.
One of my favorite people in the world just sent this to me: Moon River
Makes me want to travel and daydream and fall in love and sleep outside and watch ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ again.
I wasn’t entirely sure what I was going to write about when I sat down this evening. But while reviewing my pictures from the weekend it became clear that I’m doing a decent job of soaking up everything a Salt Lake spring/summer has to offer.
And that’s good news, because life is going too fast.
Brandi Carlile opened for Ray LaMontagne the other night and she covered this song impeccably well. It was perfect then and it’s perfect right now.
This weekend I saw ‘Midnight in Paris‘ and it rocked my world. The perfect adult driven fairytale. If you haven’t seen it I highly recommend dropping in on your local cineplex with a buddy and some popcorn.
This here is the trailer, but I’ll tell you, it doesn’t even scratch the surface of the delight you’re in for:
[insert flawless transitional statement here]
I’ve been thinking about magic a lot the last couple of days. No, not hocus pocus kind of magic. The magic that happens in the everyday.
Big surprise, we usually don’t notice it but I promise it’s happening around us Every. Single. Day. My personal culprit is the “someday” trap. Someday when I live somewhere else When I become this or that professionally When I have enough money to not ponder my bank balance while at Anthropologie When I finish all of these projects Then life will be rock n’ roll magic.
But it already is and I know it.
I know it when I have dinner with friends When I stumble upon an amazing photograph When I sit on the roof of my carport and watch the sky When I get to see my niece and nephew When orchestrating the perfect mix When the perfect piece of jewelry finally comes together When I get to buy tomatoes from a local farmer on a regular old Saturday morning When I go to see my favorite bands/musicians play live When I travel
I wish I could tell you I’m committed to stopping that naggy little voice that judges everything and can’t stay content for anything but I know it’s not very probable. So instead I’m going to pick up where I left off with some daily intentions.
In 2009 I was living in my grandma’s dark basement with wood paneled walls + wallpaper with pink poofs on it. I had finally bought myself a beautiful Jill Bliss journal and started filling it with three things:
1) Something I’m grateful for 2) Something I accomplished that day 3) An intention for the next day
Today I’m grateful for: amazing friends, gemstones, the blogosphere, water, pain, magic. Accomplished: drinking enough water, working on a big project, finishing some designs, and feeling happy! There are a bunch of intentions for tomorrow but I’ll share one: wake up at 6 AM.
What are you grateful for? And what kind of magic is blessing your day? Quick, think of 3 and share with someone. Or me! I’d love to hear!
This choice isn’t in my typical genre of musical love but when I heard it today, it instantly woke me up to the magic of my life right now and simultaneously inspired this post. I recommend cranking it and doing a little dance. Enjoy!
I watched SinglesandReality Bites this past weekend and thoroughly enjoyed every second of both. Enough that I geeked out and bought the entire Reality Bites soundtrack for one song :-/
That being said, the Song of the Week is brought to you by: Amazon MP3 and The Nineties.
Amidst being so perplexed by Ben Stiller’s ears and wondering if Ethan Hawk ever washed his hair, I got to thinking…”if I were to channel my inner Janet Livermore, what might I wear?”
Answer:
Now I just need a Cliff Poncier equivalent to rock my world.
Happy Tuesday! Go out and be the Super You!
P.S. I do recognize the irony in the song selection coming from the non-Cameron Crowe film. Especially when you consider what a Seattle/Pearl Jam/Soundgarden fan I can be. It happens.
But there is too much to do! I feel like I’m eight years old again when sleeping sounded super boring.
So for now,
I might have to have this dress. Isn’t it a law of fashion that anytime an article of clothing makes you go, “Gah! What? Ohmygosh,” you’re supposed to buy it? If not, it should be.
And…
This here, is the song of the week!: Black Sheep. It inspires me and makes me sad all at once.
Feel free to enjoy the slick pop-out player in place of those clunky YouTube videos. Sooner or later, every song of the week will be loaded into that little buddy.
Here’s our Song of the Week, at the beginning of the week!
There is no particular reason for this baby, except that I was just rocking out when it came on shuffle, and because I’ve liked it since before I knew I liked music.
This video is a little cheesy at times but it’s pretty rad if you’re interested in music history and/or the 50s/60s/70s. I didn’t realize how much story was behind this song, but I’ve been schooled.
