Come on, skinny love

How often does a piece of music really take hold of your soul? You know…the ones you play over and over and over again. I’ve been craving a heart melting song for a good while now and holy crap. Sometimes a good cover just simply reveals more about a song than perhaps you got the first time. I love the original of course (so many memories…) but this little lady’s voice + the piano has me almost speechless.

And feeling a lot like this:

Soak it in, friends.

Speaking of Bon Iver and epic covers and love, have you heard Justin Vernon’s take on this classic?

Adele has a wicked good version too!

This Song of the Week is brought to you by The Decemberists because:

1) They will be playing here tonight!

2) One of my besties just sent me this song

3) My niece’s name is Avery :)

Coming up. . .

I’ve been wanting to get a couple of big posts done for a few weeks now but time hasn’t allowed.  So here is a sneak peek!

Also, have you heard the new Bon Iver song, Calgary?  Suuuuuuper good.  I met one of my best friends at a Bon Iver concert so his voice has a special place in my heart :)

Have a listen or download it here!

Can music save your mortal soul? . . .Definitely.

Here’s our Song of the Week, at the beginning of the week!

There is no particular reason for this baby, except that I was just rocking out when it came on shuffle, and because I’ve liked it since before I knew I liked music.

This video is a little cheesy at times but it’s pretty rad if you’re interested in music history and/or the 50s/60s/70s.  I didn’t realize how much story was behind this song, but I’ve been schooled.

Enjoy!

Bizness

It has been a sloooow Tuesday.

But I'm soaking up the last bit of sunshine. . .

Drinking this, because it's the only thing that has sounded good for days (and it's REALLY good). In fact, I finally bought a blender specifically for this newfound (albeit limited) appetite. . .healthier though, yes?

. . .and jamming out to this on full volume:

Definitely my most favorite music video in a long while.  I've been a fan for less than 24 hours, but they'll be here tonight.  Should I go?  I kind of feel like staying in and working but some of my besties will be there and I don't think I can pass them up!

Song of the Week: Here Comes The Sun

I pondered this week's song all day yesterday, with nothing feeling quite right.

Finally, after far too many McDonald's commericals, Pandora hit me with some George Harrison.

This is extra perfect because Spring in Salt Lake is as misleading as ever. . .sun one day, snow the next, and it's easy to wonder if winter will ever really pass.

But it will.

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right
It's all right. . .

under heaven's skies

I'm sure I've already posted this video, BUT . . .

. . .life seems to be full of unexpected things, people, and experiences lately and this song reminds me of how lucky I am to love the people I love, and be in the presence of such beauty, blooming and bursting from somewhere I can't quite understand yet.

i walk upon the river like it's easier than land

I know I keep talking about him, but I forgot to tell you about The Tallest Man On Earth show last week.  So I’m going to.

  • It was epic.
  • Kristian Matsson is just one of those artists.  Just is.
  • Best encore I’ve ever experienced.  I can’t and won’t try to describe it, but here is a clip, and Julia remembered a line from The Perks of Being a Wallflower that says it all: and in that moment, I swear we were infinite.”

Luckily for you, I just stumbled upon this blog post (by Heather Browne) that describes what I can’t about his music.  Perfectly.  Read it, especially if you’ve ever experienced music taking your breath and words away.  There are song links (like, um, a cover of Graceland) at the bottom that are too good to miss and put my measly little video captures to shame.

You’re welcome.

and Alma, thank you.
