Dear Utah

Dear Utah,

I think I have fallen for you.  Yes, you heard me.  

I realize it’s taken me 27 years to fully admit my true feelings but they’re very clear to me now so I gotta give you a shout out.

Thank you for having epic mountains that have always been in my backyard regardless of where I live in the city.  I’ve often taken them for granted but they’re really somethin’ else.  

Thank you for having 5 National Parks, Lake Powell, Goblin Valley, Moab, and too many lakes and canyons to count.  

You realize you contain the largest salt water lake in the entire western hemisphere, right?  And it sustains over 6 million birds every year.  Kind of a big deal.  

Oh, and the world’s greatest film festival.  

And MLS champions.  

Thank you for welcoming more and more rad musicians every summer and for working on your farmer’s markets and festivals the last few years.  Your progress is astounding.  

Thank you for your really amazing coffee and perfect yoga and four full seasons.  

Thank you for letting us celebrate freedom twice a year instead of just once.  

Thank you for letting me grow up among waterfalls and stars and the best people on the planet.  

Oh, and the snow.  Don’t hold me to this, but if there’s going to be snow I’m glad it’s Utah snow.    

I can’t promise you I’ll always be here, but I will always call you home.
