a world where roses bloom
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 11:56PM Tonight was a little extra special. For the first time (since kindergarten probably), this girl planted something with the intention that it will actually grow! Into tomatoes, that is. Heirloom tomatoes. Mmmm. I'm SO excited. And I actually kind of liked it. I think there will be more of this in my future :)
More importantly, it got me thinking. We live in a world where personal tragedies and natural disasters strike everyday. Where hurricanes and earthquakes and poverty and discrimination and bad economies devastate on mass levels. Where oil spills into the ocean in the thousands of gallons, and as we Salt Lakers learned this week, in our own backyards. It would seem Mother Earth is screaming at us, probably like she always has, but it seems a little louder lately.
I'm not sure what all of that means or what conclusion I came to. But as I potted my sweet tomato plants I couldn't help but be moved by the seemingly small fact, that among all the destruction and sadness, we also live in a world where beautiful things happen everyday, babies are born, the sun shines, flowers bloom, people smile, communities collaborate, and tomatoes grow from next to nothing.
